Veronica V. R. Reeves

In 2008 I graduated from UCD's College of Arts and Media achieving a B.F.A with emphasis in Painting. I received the Outstanding Graduate award and graduated with summa cum laude status. While attending, I had excellent mentorship from John Hull, Moyosore Ogundipe, Melissa Furness, Vivian George and Mary Connelly, all of whom I still consider mentors and influences on my work.

I have loved creating as long as I can remember and embrace the creation of artwork as my purpose. I resonate with the idea that making art is a way of thinking and communicating things that are difficult to express in other ways. My work draws from a variety of styles, histories, cultures and subjects because the experience of being human cannot be limited by category. As artists, I believe it is our job to continuously experiment, develop and bring new conversations into play.

I am overcome by the beauty of being here, what it means to be human and why we habitually bring about destruction. The visual vocabulary of my work includes figures, oil refineries, technology, organic shapes, natural settings, overpopulated compositions and patterns. It's important to me to include beauty in work that may broach negative subjects for the sake of inspiring solutions and optimism.

While painting has been my primary focus my intentions are to attend an M.F.A. program that will allow me to expand on my explorations in installation and performance.
